Syawal datang lagi......sigh...??

It's Thursday today, the 23rd day of ramadhan....another 7 days to syawal....but seriously, i dun have the spirit to celebrate syawal. Well, except that I just bought a stiletto at Isetan yesterday, and it will surely be a syawal with pain, since it's about nearly 5in high...huhu....

While break-fasting with friends yesterday, somehow we realized that syawal is no longer for us. I was a happy kid once. Who can forget the excitement of having baju raya and duit raya when you were a kid? Syawal is THE most awaited month. I know that as a Muslim, we should concentrate more on ramadhan, as it is the "Penghulu" of all Islam months, and do more goods during this month. Syawal should be celebrated only for a day. But I guess, as Malaysians, we go over the top during syawal by celebrating it in one full month!! The same as what we do for ramadhan (well, for women, we celebrate ramadhan less than one month...huhu)...

As a kid, going from one house to another house to collect "duit raya" is THE highlight of the year. Me and my friends compared how much we got and whoever with the highest amount of money would be smiling from ear to ear. Well, since we go to the same houses, the only difference is on the amount of money we got from relatives. What do we do with the duit raya, you asked? Back then, things weren't as expensive as now. With few ringgit, we could buy many things. It's always that nice bag to school, or new shoes, etc. It's a joy of having to spend your own money without asking it from your parents. However, part of the duit raya always go to my savings. I was a money-savvy kid once (now, not anymore. I just spend it doing whatever I like....huhu). I count every cent that goes in and out. I knew about accounting even before I enter hi-school..huhu...but I think everyone does that, right?

I think the spirit of ramadhan now is even bigger than syawal as I get older. What is the excitement of celebrating syawal? Well, maybe one important thing is to get to meet your relatives that you don't get to see often in your life. Another joy is seeing happy faces to the "duit raya" recipients. You now know how you actually look like when you get the duit raya when you were a kid.

All these things seems to be the perfect reason for me to be happy celebrating raya, but truthfully, I still feel empty inside. Yes, I am no longer a kid, I accept that. But why can't I be a happy grown-up? sighhh....I dun know what I'm talking about now....

Salam Herl,

I was blog-hopping and came here. I suka baca your posts on interview tips and work experience. I feel the same way. I've been in my current company for 10 years oredi...& I feel like no passion or fire anymore to come to work. You are lucky you're still young to change jobs as for me I ni kira pangkat kakak lar...dah susah sikit nak lompat2 company. Plus i am def. not a risk taker. How i wish i could turn back time...:) take care!
