The other side of me…
After getting back to kerteh, I came across my pile of story books, which I borrowed from the library. The due date is nearer and I haven’t finished reading them. I decided to read Sidney sheldon’s “The Other Side of Me”. It was a true story about his journey of life. It wasn’t like me to read a biography. I don’t know why, his story made me excited. I’ve read almost all his books, and I really wanted to know this man. Him as a human, his journey thru out his life. I was quite struck dead with the opening story. He started his book with his experience when he was seventeen. That was when he decided to commit suicide, ending his life due to difficulties in life. He thot that he had a miserable life. His parents fighting, financially unstable, academic not really outstanding. His saviour? His dad, whom he always refer as “The Best Salesman” becoz his ability to convince people. The only statement from his dad that made him wanted to go on living (and write wonderful book), is “You don’t want to end up your life without turning the other pages”.
For unknown reason, he bought it. But thru-out his life, he didn’t really become a successfully guy in a short time. It took him almost half a century to make him a successful author and a welknown producer. The one thing I really admire about him is, his optimistism. Whenever faced with challenges, he always has the positive attitude even tho he knew, deep known, it would be almost impossible to achieve it. As a reader, he brought me into his world, tasted his victory and agony. He lived his life for the present and only at the end of his life, he started to enjoy it and prepared himself for the future. He is a human, with many weaknesses and he let it be acknowledged in the book.
I know more about him now. And he has more of my respect. Eventho you are no longer with us, but your presence is still felt thru your novels. Right now, I’m reading “The Other Side of Midnight”. His second novel, but it is the one making him famous.
